Courtney L. Robbins

Certified Addiction Counselor II
Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor II

I have worked in the addiction treatment field for 17 years. I work with women (cis and trans) ages 18 and older and specialize in women’s issues, relapse prevention, aftercare planning/recovery maintenance, and shame resilience.

I am passionate about working with women who have a sustained period of recovery from substances and are seeking to improve their serenity and relationship to self and others by gaining new skills related to their emotional sobriety.

I am a Certified Addiction Counselor Level II through the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association. I am also nationally certified through the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Skills from Toccoa Falls College.

Out of the office, my partner Jen and I are Dog Moms to Ande. I love camping in the mountains, working on visiting all the National Parks, and acquiring a ridiculous number of houseplants.

The following principles guide my therapeutic approach and relationship with my clients:

  • I believe there are many paths to maintaining recovery. Though I am most versed at working with those who choose to work a 12-Step Program, I enthusiastically support folks on the path that is the best fit for them. I believe curiosity and creativity make excellent guides in developing a plan that feels safe and individualized.
  • I believe there are always good reasons for each and every behavior no matter how “dysfunctional” the behavior may appear. Time and again I have observed, in myself and in others, how shame and judgement can add an extra layer of pain that is usually more problematic than the original behavior. I believe if we can listen to the need underlying the behavior, we can always find a way to meet that need in a way that comes with fewer or maybe even NO negative consequences.
  • I believe this work is sacred. I believe that individuals who suffer from substance use disorders are some of the most brilliant, deeply good, and loving people to ever walk the planet. It is an honor and a privilege that I get to do this work.
  • I believe recovery is serious work and part of that work is learning how to enjoy life without substances. I have fun in session. We will laugh. A lot. But we will also be ever-mindful that addiction is fatal far too often. We will remember that we have already lost way too many good folks to this illness. And for that reason, I expect that we will both show up with a dedication to do this work, even on the days when it’s hard.
  • I believe your life depends on your recovery, and like this work, your life is sacred. You are valuable and needed in this world. I will remind you of that until this belief settles deep in your own heart.
